Wolfpack schedules baseball tryouts

WESSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack will hold open tryouts for any unsigned players on Thursday, May 30, at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Field on the Wesson Campus.

Tryouts are for the 2013-2014 baseball season. For more information call head coach Clay Smith at (601) 906-8445 or assistant coach Bryan Nobile at (662) 719-8978.

Clay Smith will take over Co-Lin baseball program

WESSON, MS (MSNEWSNOW) - Former Co-Lin Wolfpack baseball player Clay Smith is the school's new head baseball coach. Smith will be formally introduced at a news conference Monday at 1 p.m. in Rea Auditorium and the public is invited to attend.

Smith will replace Keith Case, who will retire at the end of this season, after 21 years.

Brendyn Brister of Loyd Star Attendance Center is one of sixteen statewide Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete Award recipients. Brister plays soccer for the Hornets.

Each spring sixteen graduating seniors, one girl and one boy from each of the MHSAA's eight regional districts, receive a $1,500 scholarship. The students are nominated by their principals and selected by a blue-ribbon committee that considers academic, athletic and extracurricular accomplishments.

The Jones County Bobcats scored 19 runs on 24 hits to take a doubleheader from the Co-Lin Wolfpack Wednesday. JCJC pitcher Cody Brewer has a strong outing in game one, winning 8-1. The Bobcats took the second game, 11-1 in six inning.

The Wolfpack, now 13-10, will travel to Summit Saturday to take on Southwest in the first doubleheader of the Coca Cola - Powerade Challenge.

The Co-Lin Wolfpack rallied to take a dramatic 6-5 win over the St. Louis Merrimac (MO) Archers in 12 innings. The Wolfpack (10-7) will begin South Division play on Tuesday when they host the Hinds Eagles for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.

The Archers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on Mike Ehrhard’s solo home run to left field. They added another run in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Co-Lin Wolfpack swept a doubleheader from the Mississippi Delta Trojans on a cold, windy day in the Delta Saturday. The Wolfpack rallied for 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 win in the opener and pounded out 15 hits in a 12-4 win in the second game.
