Southwest WMAs public meeting Sept. 27

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Park will host a public meeting in McComb Sept. 27, to discuss the Southwest Mississippi Wildlife Management Areas.

The meeting is from 7-8:30 p.m. at Percy Quin State Park in McComb.

The meeting will showcase regional WMA harvest data, wildlife habitat and infrastructure improvements and regulation changes, according to the MDWFP.

Lincoln Co. Wildlife Expo this weekend

The annual Lincoln County Wildlife Expo is this weekend, Sept. 14 and 15, at the Lincoln Civic Center.

The Lincoln Civic Center is located at 1096 Beltline Drive NW in Brookhaven.

The Expo hours are:

Friday, Sept. 14 - 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 15 - 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission Fees:

Adults (13 and up) $5
Children (7-12) $3
Children (6 and under): Free

MDOT: Lincoln County road projects update

The Mississippi Department of Transportation released the following updates on road projects in Lincoln County:

Bridge widening on Interstate 55: An $11.5 million project to widen 12 bridges in the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Lincoln County is expected to be complete in July. Work is progressing at the Big Creek Crossing just north of Exit 30, the Bogue Chitto River crossing north of Exit 38 and the bridge over Brookway Boulevard at Exit 40.

Squirrel hunting set to start in area Oct. 15

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi squirrel hunting season is quickly approaching and will last through the end of February.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks says now is the time to check equipment and prepare for a safe hunting season.

Hunters should be sure their hunting licenese are not expired, according to the MDWFP.
