5th graders to create bicycling poster

A national contest is offering 5th graders the chance to win a bike, bike light, and helmet. During the 2013 Bicycling Poster Contest, 5th grade students must create a poster around the theme "Bicycling makes life better."  The purpose of the contest is to promote youth riding bicycles as a way to lead a healthy lifestyle.

One winner will be selected from each state to receive a bike, bike light, and helmet.

An online fundraiser has been created to help support a 5-year-old Brookhaven girl and her family as she battles a cancerous brain tumor.

Kaley Wilkerson started having headaches in June, and doctors soon discovered a mass on her brain, according to the fundraising website.

Join the Wolfpack and Coach To Cure MD Thursday

For the fifth year in a row, college football coaches nationwide will join together in support of the Coach To Cure MD program, which will be held during games the week of Sept. 24.

The rapidly growing annual effort has raised more than a million dollars to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Co-Lin Head Coach Glenn Davis and the Wolfpack coaching staff along with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) members will wear a Coach To Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines and college football fans will be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused entirely on Duchenne muscular dystrophy... JACKSON – After 20 years in Mississippi, the Master Gardener program is stronger than ever and still making its mark on the state.

Lelia Kelly, state Master Gardener coordinator with the Mississippi State University Extension Service since 2002, said she recognized the program had great potential and set out to help county Extension offices better reach the audience she knew was out there.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at Stone Stadium on the Copiah Lincoln Community College Wesson Campus.   The 2012 football season starts Thursday, Aug. 30, when Co-Lin will take on Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville at 6:30 p.m.
